Bebe Rexha, born Bleta Rexha on August 30, 1989, in Brooklyn, New York City, hails from an ethnic Albanian family with origins in North Macedonia. Her father, Flamur Rexha, was born in Debar, North Macedonia, during the time it was a part of Yugoslavia, and he immigrated to the United States at the age of 21. Bukurije Rexha, her mother, was born in the United States to an Albanian family with ancestral ties to Gostivar, North Macedonia. In the Albanian language, the term “bletë” translates to “bee,” and Bebe explained, “My parents are Albanian, and I acquired the nickname ‘Bebe’ due to its brevity. When she was six years old, her family relocated to nearby Staten Island. Florent is the name of Bebe’s brother.

During her upbringing, Bebe Rexha displayed her talent by playing the trumpet, and she self-taught herself to play the guitar and piano.
