Fischbach’s parents separated when he was a small child, and the family later relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio. Fischbach attended the University of Cincinnati and enrolled in the biomedical engineering program after graduating from Milford High School in 2007. In 2008, he lost his father. In the sixth grade, Fischbach befriended Wade Barnes, and in his freshman year, he shared a room with Bob Muyskens. Both would go on to become his lifelong friends and colleagues.
Fischbach experienced several problems in 2012, including a breakup, job loss, moving into an apartment after his mother ejected him from her home, an emergency appendectomy, and financial difficulties. He “decided that he wanted to do something else” after being admitted to the hospital due to an adrenal tumor.
Youtube Career
On March 6, 2012, Fischbach set up his first YouTube channel. At first, he wanted to post comedy sketches and action films. As he would be playing all the characters in the sketches, he gave the channel the moniker “Markiplier,” a combination of the words Mark and multiplier. Later, Fischbach referred to it as a “really dumb name”. Fischbach, on the other hand, had a lifelong passion for video games and started to make gaming movies as the craze took off. Amnesia: The Dark Descent (2010) was the subject of his debut series, which helped the channel gain over 94,000 subscribers in just one year.
Fischbach relocated to Los Angeles at the beginning of 2014 to be nearer to potential business prospects. He published his debut Let’s Play of Five Nights at Freddy’s (2014) on August 13. The survival horror game, which had only been released five days earlier, and its several sequels became extremely popular as YouTubers like Fischbach created videos showcasing their “animated and over-the-top” emotions. Viewers were entertained by his hilariously exaggerated emotions as well as by his difficulties in understanding the game’s plot and completing the game’s hardest setting. The Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNaF) series was later the subject of Let’s Plays by Fischbach, which have since become some of his most popular and often-seen videos.
On March 23, 2015, he had emergency surgery and posted a video from his hospital bed which received over 5 million views. Fortunately, the surgery was a success and Mark returned to vlogging afterwards
